Dorothy learned to quilt by watching her mother and grandmother. Now 90, she’s earned quite a share of ribbons from the Iowa State Fair and Des Moines Quilter’s Guild shows. During World War II, she made quilts as she waited for her fiance, James, to return home. They married in 1945. She made this colorful quilt, a keepsake for her son, Jimmy, from neckties he has worn on special occasions.
