Our thriving resident for the month of July is Helen Bowen, or as she may introduce herself, “Helen of Troy”. Helen was born and raised in East Los Angeles. Her father was a boxer and mother, a jack of all trades as she made their clothes, always had a very large garden, and was a wonderful cook. In 1949, Helen married her high school sweetheart, Kenny. Together the couple raised four children, two girls and two boys. Her husband, Kenny spent his career as a carpenter and Helen had her own custom window treatment business. They enjoyed their time in Los Angeles where they could visit the mountains and the beach in the same day. Helen has 11 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. They visit her often and she really enjoys the time they spend together. Helen stays active at The Village at Legacy Pointe, joining us for morning exercises, trivia, and games. She is a regular at Tuesday afternoon manicures, as well as our social events. Helen is very involved in her biblical studies and teaching. She is also known for her signature one-liners, and always quick to help someone in need. You will find Helen reading the paper with a cup of coffee visiting with her community friends.
